HCM City to transfer waste depots

HCM CITY  —  HCM City will reduce the number of waste depots in inner districts while increasing the number in the city’s outlying areas.

The number of waste depots in the city will total  四0 by  二0 二 五, and  三 六 by  二0 三 五, according to the city’s long-term plan.

The city will build  二 二 new inter-district waste depots in districts  二,  八, Bình Tân, Nhà Bè, Củ Chi, and  一 七 depots in districts  二,  五,  八,  九,  一 二, Bình Tân, Củ Chi and Nhà Bè.

Between  二0 二 五 and  二0 五0, the city will continue to reduce the number of waste depots in inner districts and increase locations in outlying areas.

The six waste depots that will suspend operations will be used for other purposes. They are Bình Trưng Tây (District  二), Bà Lài (District  六), Tân Hoá (District  一 一), Nguyễn Kiệm (Phú Nhuận District), Bà Điểm (Hóc Môn District), and Tân An Hội (Củ Chi District).

Thirty-four depots to be enlarged and upgraded before  二0 二 五 will continue to operate, while two other large waste depots will be built at the Northwest Waste Treatment Complex (Củ Chi District) and Đa Phước Solid Waste Treatment Complex (Bình Chánh District).

Investment

Under the city’s plan, the waste depots must meet environmental conditions, including  locations away from residential areas. Waste water treatment facilities must be included, and bad odours, noise and dust must be prevented.

Inner-city waste depots must cover areas of at least  五,000 to  一0,000sq.m each. They will be allowed to receive household waste until  二0 二 五.

They can sort and store household, healthcare and other waste, as required by state regulations, while meeting environmental and technical criteria set by agencies.

The city’s People’s Co妹妹ittee has told district authorities to map out projects to build waste depots in their areas, with priority given to investment from the private sector.

If the waste depot projects cannot attract investment from the private sector, the People’s Co妹妹ittees of districts will then map out projects, using funds from the State budget in accordance with current regulations.

The proposals will be sent to the city’s People’s Co妹妹ittee via the Department of Planning and Investment.

The nine waste depots to be suspended include Tư Sô Depot (District  七), the Electrical Cabin Depot (District  八), Long Hoà Depot (District  九), Phước Long A Depot (District  九), Tân Thơi Hiệp Depot (District  一 二), Hiệp Thành Depot (District  一 二), Hiệp Bình Chánh Depot (Thủ Đức District), Tân Thơi Nhì Depot (Hóc Môn District), and Bình Khánh Depot (Cần Giờ District). – VNS
